About Gutter Cleaning Witney
Contact Gutter Cleaning Witney Today! The market town of Witney is located on the River Windrush in West Oxfordshire, England’s county of Oxfordshire. It is located 19 kilometres (12 miles) west of Oxford. Old English meaning “Witta’s island” is where the place name “Witney” comes from. The Wyttannige in a Saxon charter from 969 is the oldest documented mention of it. It is listed as Witenie in the Domesday Book from 1086.
Since the Middle Ages, wool blankets from Witney have become renowned. These blankets are made using water from the River Windrush, which was thought to be the key to Witney’s premium blankets. Traditional producers of blankets also produced mops, and every ship in the Royal Navy formerly had Witney mops on board. Built in 1721 for the purpose of weighing and measuring blankets, the Blanket Hall on High Street. There used to be five blanket companies in the town, but when the biggest blanket manufacturer, Early’s, closed in 2002, production of blankets in the town came to a full halt.
