About Gutter Maintenance Newton Aycliffe
A town in County Durham, England is called Newton Aycliffe. The town, which was established in 1947 as a result of the New Towns Act of 1946, is located about ten miles south of Durham and five miles north of Darlington. The north of England’s oldest new town is located there. It constitutes the civil parish of Great Aycliffe along with neighbouring Aycliffe Village (to the south) and the northern portion of School Aycliffe (to the west). The town has 26,633 people living there as per the 2011 Census.
Great Aycliffe had a population of 26,385 in 2001, however by 2007 the town council reported that this number had increased to 29,000. Within the Sedgefield constituency, it is the biggest town. Several towns and villages, including Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Shildon, and Heighington, are located within a 10-mile (16-kilometer) circle. The community of Aycliffe is located south of the town. ‘New Town’ is where Newton is from.
Great Aycliffe was the biggest town in the borough of Sedgefield, which was centred in Spennymoor, until 2009. The Great Aycliffe Town Council and the County Durham Unitary Authority have been in charge of Newton Aycliffe’s administration since April 2009.
Aycliffe had a significant role in the production of World War II ammunition in more recent times. Due to its near-constant coverage in fog and mist, the marshy area was an excellent defence against the Luftwaffe. Huge armaments factories were constructed and supplied by the neighbouring railway lines, which were covered in grass. Women made up the majority of the workforce in the factories, numbering in the thousands. These women, known as the “Aycliffe Angels,” endured horrifying hazards within the workshops.
