The town and civil parish of Ottery St. Mary, sometimes referred to as “Ottery,” is located on the River Otter in the East Devon area of Devon, England, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Exeter on the B3174. The parish, which is made up of the settlements of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St. John, Wiggaton, and (up until 2017) West Hill, had 7,692 inhabitants in 2001. 4,898 people called the urban area home as per the 2011 Census.
In Ottery, there are two electoral wards (Rural and Town). 9,022 people called both wards home as of the 2011 census, including those living in the nearby civil parish of Aylesbeare.
