About Gutter Maintenance Rye

A tiny town and civil parish in East Sussex, England, Rye is located two miles from the coast at the meeting point of the Rother, Tillingham, and Brede rivers. It was located at the top of an English Channel embayment and was a significant member of the Cinque Ports confederation during the Middle Ages. The city was also virtually completely encircled by water.

In 2011, there were 4,773 people living in Rye. It has a long history of involvement with the sea, including sending ships to the Crown during times of war and engaging in smuggling. The Olde Bell Inn and The Mermaid Inn, which are said to be related, were utilised by the infamous Hawkhurst Gang.

With hotels, guest homes, B&Bs, tea rooms, and restaurants, it is a popular tourist destination because of its historical origins and attractiveness. Mermaid Street, one of the UK’s busiest Instagrammable Streets, is one such location. Additionally, Rye has a little fishing fleet and Rye Harbour offers space for yachts and other types of boats.

Rye’s name is thought to have originated from the West Saxon word ieg, which means island. According to mediaeval maps, Rye was once situated on a sizable English Channel embayment known as the Rye Camber, which offered a secure harbour and anchorage. Rye had a significant role in the transportation and storage of iron from the Wealden iron industry as early as the Roman era.
