Administrative History of Wilmslow
One of the eight prehistoric parishes in the Macclesfield Hundred of Cheshire was Wilmslow. The townships of Bollinfee, Chorley, Fulshaw, and Pownall Fee were created out of it. The townships were transformed into independent civil parishes by the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1866. When Pownall Fee and Fulshaw were eliminated on September 30, 1894, Wilmslow was once again established as a civil parish. The majority of Bollinfee, the majority of Fulshaw, and a portion of Pownall Fee were transferred to Wilmslow; the remainder of Fulshaw joined the much smaller Bollinfee civil parish, located in the Alderley Edge Urban District, and the remaining 1,523 acres (6.16 km2) of Pownall Fee were used to form the new Styal civil parish. When Wilmslow became a civil parish in 1895, it was the only member of the Wilmslow Urban District Council. It received its own Coat of Arms on June 21, 1951. Wilmslow joined Macclesfield Borough on April 1, 1974, and the Cheshire East unitary authority on April 1, 2009.
